When 50.1% of the American public owe their livelihoods to government the war will have been lost. When government employees, government grant foundations, school district employees and local governments control more than half of the economy they will be in a position to just vote themselves raises, benefits, perks and paychecks in perpetuity.
One gauge of how close we are to the socialist tipping point is in the amount of taxes we pay federal, state, local, sales, utility, estate, ad nauseum. When the median tax rate steps over the 50% line, we may as well pack it in. The last I heard the median tax load in our country was somewhere close to 40%. If anyone has a source which would provide more analysis, please share.
However, I wanted to share one anecdotal observation which lends credence to the notion that government has become a behemoth. This is not science, but simply an observation: It generally takes me about 25 minutes to wind my way through traffic to work. However, on this week when schools are out of session and the school buses and all of the school acolytes are home watching Good Morning America, the ride to work is a breeze! Without government schools in session we have sane traffic.
Solution: Everybody home school. We wont need new roads and we wont need mass transit and we wont need the teachers unions and we wont need the DFL. It solves everything!!!! Why hasnt someone thought of this before?
